Ready for Your Overnight/Multi-Day  Hiking Checklist GRUNT Adventure?

When you’re embarking on an overnight or multi-day GRUNT adventure, comprehensive preparation is key. Elevate your experience by packing smartly and efficiently. In addition to the items listed for day hikes, consider these essentials for longer journeys. For detailed insights, refer to our ‘Preparing Your Pack’ guide.

Overnight/Multi-Day Essentials:

  1. Secure Shelter: Include a tent with a fly, integral floor, and insect-proof design to ensure a comfortable night’s rest.
  2. Insulated Sleeping Gear: Pack a sleeping bag sealed in a plastic bag for waterproofing. A liner sheet is recommended. For alpine areas, a sub-zero-rated sleeping bag is essential.
  3. Sleeping Comfort: Bring a sleeping mat or self-inflating mat to enhance sleeping comfort.
  4. Cooking Gear: Carry a compact stove, billies, and leak-proof fuel bottles. Matches sealed in a waterproof container are a must.
  5. Water Management: Have extra water containers, a mug, a bowl/plate, and utensils for meal prep.
  6. Water Purification: Include water purifying tablets and/or filters for safe drinking water.
  7. Illumination and Tools: Pack spare torch batteries and bulbs, a pocket knife, and cord for various needs.
  8. Clothing Layers: Bring a change of clothes, warm clothing, and jackets suitable for cold climates.
  9. Safety First: Ensure at least one member of your group carries a Personal Locator Beacon (PLB) for emergencies.
  10. Optional Additions: If space allows, consider packing a camera, cards, books, a repair kit, and even a candle lantern for added comfort.
  11. Gaiters:   gaiters, providing protection against debris and weather.

Remember, ideally, the pack weight when sharing equipment between two people should be around 13 kg plus 0.7 kg of food per day. Major camping equipment can often be borrowed or hired, lightening your load and reducing costs. Clubs and hiking shops can provide helpful advice and resources. Proper equipment care after your adventure ensures reliability and prolongs its lifespan.
